Ancient City of Alexandria Troas

Ἀλεξάνδρεια Τρῳάς

Antigonos Monophthalmos, one of Alexander the Great’s generals, founded the city in 310 BC under the name Antigoneia; Lysimachos later renamed it Alexandria Troas. Its ruins lie at Kestanbolluk in Dalyan village, Ezine district; the city spreads over 390 hectares and its walls run for 8 km. Inside are a theatre, a stadium, temples, small baths, a fountain, a harbour and a stone-paved street. Still standing is the Herodes Atticus Gymnasium, among the biggest in Anatolia.
