Aphrodisias

Ἀφροδισιάς

Aphrodisias grew rich on marble: quarries north-east of the town supplied the stone and its sculptors turned it into art. The site, in the upper Morsynus valley, covers both the quarries and the city, where two baths, an agora, a theatre and temples anchor the street plan.
