Amisos
Ἀμισός
Written sources say the Milesians founded Amisos in the 6th century BC on Toraman Tepe and its slopes, north-west of central Samsun; the city reached its peak under Mithridates VI. Rescue excavations begun in 2004 at two artificial mounds known as the Baruthane Tumuli uncovered tombs of the Hellenistic period.
