Πέρρη
Perre, in Adıyaman, ranked among the five chief cities of the Kingdom of Commagene (163 BC–AD 72) and owed its importance to the road linking Melitene (Malatya) with Samosata (Samsat). Romans and Byzantines called it Hierapolis. The town proper occupied the area of today’s Örenli quarter; around it are the region’s largest necropolis, cisterns, wine workshops and a 5th-century AD mosaic of 155 m², the largest one-piece mosaic yet found in Adıyaman.
