Uzuncaburç Archaeological Site (Diocaesarea)

Διοκαισάρεια

In the Hellenistic age the Kingdom of Olba worshipped at Uzuncaburç, 30 km north of Silifke. That era left a tomb capped by a pyramid roof, a tower 23 m high and the Temple of Zeus Olbios, which became a church in the 5th century AD. In AD 72, under Vespasian, the town broke away from Olba as the self-governing city of Diocaesarea; the Victory Gate, the Temple of Tyche, a ceremonial gate, a fountain, a theatre and a colonnaded street belong to this later phase.
